Caldwell Historical Society presents Cecil Haynes as he shares the postal history of Caldwell County. Early post offices were located in store fronts and private homes, such as Fort Defiance. Many were located no more than three to five miles apart. Once considered the cornerstones of their communities, families would venture weekly to check their mail in hopes of hearing from loved ones.
