With the recent announcement of Apple’s location of a server farm in Catawba County and with Google already in Caldwell County, both counties are working together to bring more data centers to the region. Because of the area’s infrastructure, available power grid and accessible power, the region is viewed as an attractive area for companies such as Google and Apple.

Recently, both economic development organizations from Catawba and Caldwell counties announced a push to create a data center corridor called “Route 321: NC’s Data Corridor” initiative. They also agreed to contribute to a Data Center Information Exchange conference in Hickory with representatives from both Google and Apple.

The Caldwell County Economic Development Commission is using funds from the Sales Tax Reinvestment Fund along with funds from Catawba County to market the region as a data center corridor.
